Orientation Begins for Scranton’s Class of 2020

Orientations sessions began July 5 for the 1,000 plus members of The University of Scranton’s class of 2020. Two-day orientation sessions for incoming students and parents will take place July 7-8, 11-12 and 14-15.

University of Scranton President Kevin P. Quinn, S.J., welcomed the students who represent 13 states and 18 countries, and thanked them and their parents for the “wisdom” displayed in choosing Scranton.

He remarked that the students were entering a “University with a proud tradition of success.” He reassured the students that they are prepared for college and encouraged them to “take full advantage of all the University has to offer.”

 Orientation is designed to introduce new students and their families to the University’s procedures, facilities and support services, and to provide them with the opportunity to meet with faculty, administrators and staff, as well as each other.

At the July orientation sessions, students complete chemistry, mathematics, foreign language and composition placement tests. They also meet academic advisors, attend presentations on support services and extracurricular activities, and participate in recreational and social events. Parents and guests learn about the new role they will play as they transition to becoming a parent of a college student and are briefed on the resources and programs offered by Campus Ministries, Financial Aid, the Center for Career Development and other departments at the University.

The entire class of 2020 will assemble on campus for the first time at Fall Welcome Weekend on Saturday, Aug. 20, and Sunday, Aug. 21.
